Océanopolis, the National Botanic Conservatory and major cultural events all add to the richness of this harbour town nestling on the edge of the world.

Events in Brest

The cultural life of Brest - Brest Métropole Océane, to give the town its full French title – revolves around certain key venues, notably the national stage at Le Quartz, and La Carène, venue for current music acts; added to this are several well-known festivals (Festival Astropolis, Printemps des Sonneurs, Chant des Chapelles, Festival du Film Court), famous summer events such as Les Jeudis du Port, and entertainment that runs throughout the year, as with Cabaret Le Vauban.

In other words, this is a dynamic town where there’s always something going on!

The famous Recouvrance Bridge is open to cars, trams, bikes and pedestrians. “The Emphatic Tree” is a work by the Catalan Ecologist-Architect Enric Ruiz Geli.

Enjoy a spot of culture in Brest

The famous ocean discovery centre, Océanopolis, is justifiably popular with all visitors. Its three themed pavilions, its cultural and scientific importance, and its temporary exhibitions unite to create a unique centre of knowledge and entertainment for young and old alike, all in an atmosphere that is both light-hearted and welcoming.

In the heart of a 116-acre valley, the Conservatoire Botanique National de Brest includes a magnificent public park, an ideal place for families to walk and to unwind; the Conservatoire itself boasts glasshouses and gardens, home to endangered plants from five continents, as well as decorative and rare plants in a setting of wood, cliffs and water features. Suffice to say that the Conservatoire was the first establishment in the world dedicated to saving plants in danger of disappearing: hats off to Brest!

Brest has four main museums: Musée de la Marine (Maritime Museum), Musée des Beaux-Arts (Museum of Fine Arts), Musée de la Tour Tanguy, and the Centre d'Art Passerelle.
All year round, guided visits of the town and the Naval Base are available for groups.
