The islands of Finistère: a discovery trail by car and on foot

5 days / 4 nights on the islands
Each island is in a world of its own where life passes slowly and with very little traffic – indeed, often none at all. A few minutes on a boat and you get a complete change of scene. Wild and mysterious, like Ouessant, peaceful like Batz or ‘at world’s end’ like Sein, each invites you to on a very different voyage at the edge of the world.
Your schedule
Day 1: Arrive in Roscoff
Arrive in Roscoff, classed as a town of character with its historic ship-owners’ houses. Night in a 3-star hotel in Roscoff.
Day 2: Île de Batz and Île d'Ouessant
A short crossing to the Île de Batz, where you can stroll for 3 or 4 hours around this pretty island fringed with sandy beaches. Enjoying its own micro-climate, Batz has kept a wealth of flora and fauna between its fields of abundant crops. In the afternoon, head over to Le Conquet (1½ hours away) where you can catch the boat for Ouessant, a look-out post of an island at the extreme west of Brittany (30-45 mins). Stay the night in a small, charming hotel on Ouessant. Free time for dinner.
Day 3: Ouessant, circular walk around the Pointe de Creac’h
Walk along the north coast of the island, from where you’ll be able to spot Île Keller, the lighthouse Phare de Créac’h and the Ecomuseum. The wild, jagged coastline covered with close-cropped moorlands includes several charming little creeks and spectacular, soaring cliffs. Second night on the island at the edge of the world. Stay the night in a small, charming hotel on Ouessant. Free time for dinner.
Day 4: The south coast of Ouessant
Set off to the southern tip of the island where you can see the lighthouse Phare de la Jument (47m tall). The itinerary continues along the cliffs that are home to many seabirds. Catch the boat back to the mainland and Le Conquet before heading to Audierne.
Day 5: The Île de Sein
A boat trip across the Raz de Sein. The approach to the Île de Sein is littered with reefs and shipwrecks, where the lighthouses of the Île de Sein and Ar Men guide the ships in with their reassuring beacons. The Île de Sein is a unique place, a tiny island whose highest point is just 9 metres above the waves.
