Lifeguard and beach in Finistère

Holidays are often a time for being carefree – but not for being careless. To make the most of your seaside stay, here are a few hints and tips:

  • Be sun-aware: it’s best to gradually increase your exposure to the sun, and to use an effective suncream at all times.
  • Remember to rehydrate, especially the children: make sure they drink plenty and regularly, as they are more vulnerable to dehydration than adults – but remember to drink plenty of water yourself, too.
  • Respect any safety rules or advice wherever you are.
  • Reduce risks by learning how to swim, and by staying with your children when they are near the water’s edge.
  • Never overestimate your own strength.
  • Avoid swimming for two hours after a large meal.
  • Avoid skin irritations: don’t lie directly on the sand, and do wash yourself off after you’ve been on the beach.
  • If you’re going into the sea, do so gradually, especially if you’ve been out in the sun for a long time.
  • Respect the cleanliness of your surroundings and take your litter away with you; if you have pets, be sure to follow the instructions and restrictions that apply.
