You are here

Located on the foothills of the Arrée Mountains, at the entrance to the Natural Regional Park of Armorique, Guerlesquin is a quirky little market town that you’re not likely to forget.

It boasts three town squares lined with majestic monuments and attractive residences, all reminding you of its heyday hosting markets and county fairs. Don't miss, for example the wonderful granite-built market halls and the original 17th century prison that still stands in the town centre – miniature in proportion but terribly effective!

Through the passing centuries, countless markets turned Guerlesquin into a flourishing little town with prosperous trade activities. Proof of this is to be found in the central town square with its impressive dimensions, around which you’ll find fascinating examples of architectural heritage including the former homes of the nobility and the traders themselves. The unusual auction known as “marché au cadran” is held every other Thursday.

Nature-lovers will not be disappointed, either. This town is surrounded by greenery and the sort of countryside that is a delight for walkers and ramblers.

Unusual : don't miss  the World Championship for “Throwing the Standing Stone” (rather like a prehistoric take on tossing the caber…) in August
