Geocaching in Finistère

Explore Brittany through Treasure Hunting!

Spice up your visits in Finistère and give children fresh motivation to explore the region thanks to Geocaching. This relatively new activity enables you to locate and identify hidden elements of the Finistère heritage, roam the landscapes and head off the beaten tracks in search of the next Geocache. A word of warning, though - once you start this activity, it's hard to stop!

Using your GPS, you must follow clues to track down one of the Geocache boxes that are hidden throughout the world (over a million in all) take out the object that's inside, take some photos and put in another object ready for the next person. Of course, you must do all this as discreetly as possible so as not to spoil the game for anyone else who might be on the hunt nearby...

Before you finally find the box, you might have cross a forest, followed a coastal path or threaded your way through a town, all of which will give you a whole new perspective on the area. You will almost certainly notice things that you would not otherwise have seen had you not been taking part in the game, like a fountain hidden in the undergrowth, a babbling brook hidden in a field, an adorable little chapel on the very edges of the sea or the ruins of an old manor house. Who knows what you might find?

Happy hunting!

Other similar networks also exist, such as www.cistes.net, whose treasure troves are called "cistes".
