Look out for...

Keep an eye out for the label "Jardin remarquable" (literally, remarkable garden) awarded to those gardens whose design, planting and upkeep are of a remarkable standard. Any deserving garden, public or privately owned, protected or not, can win this award.

Why does Finistère have so many palm trees and exotic plants?

There is a surprisingly rich diversity of plant species in Finistère, and not all are to be found in public parks or botanical gardens. From Daoulas Abbey and the Château de Trévarez  - with their  -  - with their horticultural expertise - to the modest domestic gardens around the coast, garden-lovers will find endless delights here.

And in answer to the question about those exotic plants, sailors had a longstanding tradition of bringing home a souvenir plant from their final voyage... so what you see are often the fruits of their travels.
