Mountain Biking : 2500 km of trails and circuits

Mountain biking in Finistère

If you love the mountain biking sensation, you'll adore Finistère; We have countless trails and circuits, through every kind of terrain imaginable!

For the land (Argoat in Breton) to the sea (Armor), from north to south, mountain biking is possibly one of the best ways to discover Brittany, nowhere more so than in Finistère.

Here, we have a great network of circuits for mountain bikers, with an active and enthusiastic community of those who love mountain bikes (known in France as VTT, French for all-terrain bikes).  There are competitions and fun events all year round, and behind the scenes there are people committed to maintaining these fantastic trails for everyone to enjoy.
Running alongside the work of these local clubs, there are also groups working to develop mountain biking bases throughout Finistère.

Mountain biking bases and areas

Mountain biking bases and areas are information centers which present mountain biking routes. They are located all over Finistère:

Signposting for VTT trails

Balisage des itinéraires vélo

The VTT mountain bike trails are flagged up with 2 circles and a triangle - red for national routes, yellow for local routes and brown for routes in protected natural parks.

Each circuit has a number that is noted on the signpost and has a colour according to its difficulty. Green = very easy; blue = easy; black = very difficult. This symbol is registered with the French Cycle Federation(FFC).

Practical advice

  • Take the routes as signposted and respect which direction to travel in
  • Always wear a cycle helmet
  • Don't over-estimate your ability, and stay within a manageable and safe speed at all times
  • If biking alone, tell someone where you're travelling
  • Be considerate of other users of the trails, particularly walers and horse-riders, who have priority over cyclists
  • Respect the natural environment and private property along the way

Conquer Monts d’Arrée

For mountain bikers, three signposted trails provide all the challenges you're seeking, from wild peaks to green valleys: St-Barnabé 15 km (with 242 m difference in altitude), le Relec 18 km (400 m difference) et Le Cloître 31 km (562 m difference).

The three rental agencies of Morlaix - Arrée Mountains, especially the Information Center on D785 road in Plonéour Menez open daily during summer, have VTT Moutain bikes.
