The town of three hills
Through narrow, picturesque streets, through steep alleyways, and broad pavements, you'll discover the charms of medieval Morlaix. There are challenging stairs, terraced gardens where lilacs trail over stone walls, and chapels waiting to be discovered alongside ancient fountains. An adventurous and curious visitor might even come across a hidden corner covered with vines...
There are historic timbered houses with rich architectural features
that embellish the pedestrian streets of the old quarters, standing as reminders of an illustrious and wealthy past. In the heart of the lower town, a passer-by will notice the magnificent façades of the Duchesse Anne house and the Pondalez..
The linen trade assured the wealth and prosperity of Morlaix for several centuries. Morlaix Port was Brittany's largest port at one time. On the quayside of Léon, you'll see sold architecture and the remains of the Royal Tobacco Manufacture. The Viaduct, an impressive work that spans the town, is instantly recognisable and imposing in size. The Morlaix people are happy to welcome visitors into their hometown with its undeniable beauty.
Morlaix, a town of a thousand facets, a town of character, is blessed with a wonderful and vibrant culture. There is a good network of clubs and associations here, and various cultural centres including two cinemas, four libraries, a museum and two theatres.
Renowned shows are also held here, at the Parc Langolvas, which hosts shows of national standing.
Naturally, the summer season is the pinnacle of all our events here. Every year, on 14th July (Bastille Day) we celebrate all that is Breton Culture - games, dance, exhibitions of breton costume, Breton parties and festivals and of course the Breton language.
In August, Morlaix welcomes street performers and artists of all genres from the whole world over. For over twenty years, Morlaix's Festival des Arts dans la Rue has been dedicated to spreading the joy about street performance and airing new talent in a public arena. Culture is always top billing in Morlaix !
Through the many pedestrian streets, unique boutiques, and hidden corners, the true charm of Morlaix. Independent artists and business people will be waiting to welcome you, advise you and share their town with you.
