A Town full of Character

Through the centuries, countless markets and fairs made Guerlesquin into a flourishing and prosperous town. Bearing witness to this status is the unusually large central square, around which are buildings of a rich architectural heritage built and inhabited by wealthy residents. Nature-lovers also felt at home in Guerlesquin thanks to its setting in a little glad of green, an ideal area for taking a walk in the fresh air.

As you discover different parts of the town , you learn more about its peculiar history; there are ancient homes from the 16th century, the Saint-Ténénan church, market halls once topped by a justice court and most striking of all, a prison dating from 1640 in the form of a square tower with a round tower on each corner. This prison can be visited upon request and is a fascinating glimpse into local history. In the surrounding countryside you can also find other traces of history in the form of stone crosses, fountains and chapels.

Guerlesquin has a reputation for the unusual, not least the events that attract curious visitors: the World Championship of Bouloù Pok (boules), Mardi-Gras, Antiques Fair, exhibitions, markets and, last but not least, the World Championship of Throwing the Standing Stone. Now that is not your average day out!
