Océanopolis, The National Botanical Conservatory and large-scale events all enhance this famous town.
Brest has a rich cultural scene, largely thanks to Le Quartz (a national stage) and La Carène, home of modern music. In addition there many festivals, such as the Festival Astropolis, Printemps des Sonneurs, Chant des Chapelles, Festival du Film Court and events that happen specifically in summer (les Jeudis du Port) or all year round (Cabaret Le Vauban).
Océanopolis is a famous underwater discovery world with three themed pavillions that include exhibitions and all manner of underwater life (from sharks to tiny tropical rainbow fish). The scientific aspect of Océanopolis makes this more than just an aquarium, and despite its fun approach it is a fascinating way to learn about the sea.
The National Botanical Conservatory is an unparalleled site spreading over 47 hectares, including a magnificent public park (free entry), rare specimens, threatened species from around the world, waterfalls and cliffs. This was the first establishment in the world to dedicate itself to saving plants that were in danger of disappearing altogether. Hats off!
In terms of museums, Brest has four key centres: the Musée de la Marine, Musée des Beaux-Arts, Musée de la Tour Tanguy and Centre d'Art Passerelle.
All year round, there are guided visits on offer for groups to the naval base or around the town itself.
